How to Use Preferred Searches
If you have a favorite author or subject for which you often search when using the catalog, you can save the search with the click of a button. This will prevent you from having to key in the search each time and let you place reserves on new materials quicker.
Preferred Searches will be very helpful for anyone who enjoys requesting TV series and popular Feature Films on DVD, or for people who just want to keep track of their favourite author's newest publications. Let us tell you when they have been added to our collection!
To set up a Preferred Search, follow these steps
-
Log in to My Library.
-
From inside your Personal Files, search for your favourite author, subject, title, etc. or do an Advanced Keyword search including limits to material type, language, publication year, etc.. .
-
When your results are displayed, click on the button marked "Save as preferred search" that appears above your search results.
-
If you like, you can place a checkmark in the box next to "Limit to titles that are not in my Reading History". This means that every time you re-run your saved search, your results list will only show you the titles that you haven't checked out yet - which is helpful if you don't want to repeat anything accidentally.
-
The next time that you log in to My Library, you can click on the "Preferred Searches" button to see a list of your saved searches (You might need to scroll down).
-
Click on the "search" link associated with any of the preferred search terms in the list to quickly execute your search.
-
You can be alerted of new materials added to the library collection which match your searches. Just check the "Mark for Email" box and be sure that your patron record information includes your current email address.
-
If you want to delete a Preferred Search, simply click the box in the "Mark to Remove" column and then click on the "Update List" button.
