Microfilm and microfiche

The microfilm and microfiche collection of the Greater Sudbury Public Library is available only on the Research Level of the Main Library. This collection is essential to individuals who are interested in genealogy and local history.

What is available?

• Local newspapers such as:

  • Sudbury Journal (1891 - 1918)
  • The Sudbury Star (1910 - current)
  • Northern Life (1973 - current)
  • Le Voyageur (1968 - current)
• Fonds Drouin (for local baptisms, marriage, confirmations)

• National newspapers

  • The Globe and Mail (sporadic coverage)

Who can use the collection?

Use of the microfilm/microfiche reader/printers is open to everyone and no appointment is necessary; however, please be aware that during high-demand periods, use may be limited to one hour sessions.

What we can help you with?

• If you do not live in the Greater Sudbury area or are physically unable to come to the Main Library, the staff at GSPL are able to assist with basic searches.
• Use the Ask a Question form to submit questions.
• When submitting your questions, please follow the guidelines stated in the form.
• Please limit your questions to 3 per week.

What you may do with the information?

• Save/print/email portions of the information found on the microform.

What does it cost?

• Use of the collection is free-of-charge
• Printing is available for .15 cents per page (8.5" x 11")
