Ontario Public Library Week
GSPL Celebrates Ontario Public Libraries Week, October 17 to 21
Every year in October, we celebrate Ontario Public Libraries Week to acknowledge the important role that GSPL plays in our community. The 2022 theme is, “One card, one million possibilities”. Your GSPL card is your ticket to all the wonderful opportunities the library provides.
Get a library card today
Ontario Public Libraries Week is a great time to sign up for – or renew – your library card. If you live in Greater Sudbury, just come into any library branch with a piece of government-issued photo ID and something that proves your address to get signed up right away. You can view a full list of acceptable ID formats. There are several fun designs to choose from.
No ID? No problem. You can still access our services. Just talk to a Branch Assistant to learn about our Access card.
What’s New at GSPL?

So . . . which of our 1,000,000 possibilities will you check out next?
Statistics
Did you know . . .
Our patrons borrowed over half a million items in the last year – with physical lending being almost three times more than digital.
Library branches saw over a quarter-million in-branch visits throughout that time.
Close to 20,000 municipal transactions were conducted at libraries.
Economic Impact
Did you know . . .
You add value to our local economy each time you borrow library items or access our services for free?
GSPL brought an economic benefit of over $52 million to Greater Sudbury in 2018. This breaks down to almost $300 for every single person in Greater Sudbury – even if they don’t use the library! The library creates economic value every time someone borrows an item, attends a program, makes a 3D print, uses one of our computers or accesses the internet at one of our branches.
And it saves you money too! The next time you check out items, take a look at your receipt – it will tell you how much you saved by borrowing instead of buying.
Using the library just makes great economic sense – for the whole community!
