National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
GSPL Commemorates National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
In commemoration of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, all branches of the Greater Sudbury Public Library will be closed on September 30 and Monday, October 2 (observed holiday). Also known as Orange Shirt Day, September 30 offers us a chance to publicly commemorate the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools and the Sixties Scoop, which is a vital part of the reconciliation process.
GSPL has books, ebooks, audiobooks and more to help patrons learn about residential schools and their impacts on the thousands of children who never returned home, and the Survivors and their families who are affected to this day.

From September 28 to October 7, the Main Library is offering an opportunity for you to learn more about the journey toward Reconciliation. We have historical records and resources gathered from our collection, as well as hands-on opportunities to write, draw, and reflect. The interactive display is available during regular hours in the Readers’ Lounge.
For those who wish to participate in-person, the City of Greater Sudbury has collaborated with community partners to host a morning of sharing at Bell Park on Thursday, September 28, 2023. Find out more about this and other live events and find links to resources on the City of Greater Sudbury’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation web page.
