National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
GSPL Commemorates National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
In commemoration of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, all branches of the Greater Sudbury Public Library will be closed on Friday, September 30. Also known as Orange Shirt Day, September 30 offers us a chance to publicly commemorate the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools and the Sixties Scoop, which is a vital part of the reconciliation process.
GSPL has books, ebooks, audiobooks and more to help patrons learn about residential schools and their impacts on the thousands of children who never returned home, and the Survivors and their families who are affected to this day.

For those who wish to participate in-person, the Indigenous Community Collective has planned a day of events in honour of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation at Bell Park on September 30. All residents are invited to attend Bell Park for a full day of activities, including a sunrise ceremony, food and craft vendors, a play entitled, “Debwewin (TRUTH)”, and performances including dancing, drumming and singing.
Please visit https://ndtr.indigenoussudbury.ca/ for more information including a schedule for the day and a map of activities.
In addition, N’Swakamok Friendship Centre will host an open-invitation walk from their location to the Grace Hartman Amphitheater at 8:30a.m. Following the events at Bell Park, the Sudbury Wolves Season Opener on September 30 will be dedicated to the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation.
