Accessible Collections

The GSPL has developed an extensive collection of accessible materials to improve access for our patrons.

CELA - Centre for Equitable Library AccessCELA Logo

In partnership with CELA, Greater Sudbury Public Library offers a collection of over 230 000 books, magazines, newspapers, and described videos in a choice of formats for people with a print disability.

  • Lots of choice including current bestsellers, award-winners, and classics.
  • Fiction, non-fiction, self-help, business, and more.
  • Books for kids, teens, and adults.
  • Books in audio, braille, or accessible e-book formats.
  • Download books or receive home delivery by mail

Access to the CELA collection is available to people who are unable to read conventional print due to a disability, which includes:

  • Learning disability: an impairment relating to comprehension.
  • Physical disability: the inability to hold or manipulate a book.
  • Visual disability: severe or total impairment of sight or the inability to focus or move one's eyes.

How to sign up for CELA

  • You must have a valid Greater Sudbury Public Library card. If you do not have a valid Greater Sudbury Public Library card find out how you can get one.
  • With a valid GPSL library card, you may contact your local library branch and a staff member will fill out the online registration form with you. Alternatively, you may contact the Main Library at 705-673-1155, x4750.

Access to the collection is offered in a number of ways

  • Download books to your computer or mobile device, such as an iPhone.
  • Download books to a DAISY player over a wireless connection without using a computer.
  • Receive audio CDs, Braille, or described movies through your local branch or by mail directly to your home.

Large Print and Audiobook Collections

Some of our largest accessibility related collections include our Large Print and Audiobook resources. Located at all of our library branches, and providing access to both fiction and non-fiction content, our collections allow our patrons with a form of print disability to access new and popular titles in a format better suited to their personal convenience.

Does your child have some form of a print disability? We haven't forgotten about them. We proudly offer Large Print versions of Juvenile and Teen titles. We also have previous Summer Reading Club titles offered in an audiobook format through CELA.
