The Greater Sudbury Public Library invites applications for the position of
Greater Sudbury Poet Laureate 2020 - 2022

The Poet Laureate shall:
  • perform poetry readings and/or spoken word performances, including annual readings or performances at one or more public library events;
  • serve as poet in residence to the Greater Sudbury Public Library;
  • promote poetry and the literary arts in our community;
  • develop and co-host a poetry event for teens in cooperation with the Greater Sudbury Public Library;
  • develop and host a poetry workshop at the Greater Sudbury Public Library, and
  • create a unique literary legacy project to mark the term of Poet Laureate (for example, a poetry contest or a national poetry month event).

Honorarium for the Greater Sudbury Poet Laureate is $1,000 per term. The City of Greater Sudbury will supply business cards, a page on the City of Greater Sudbury and Greater Sudbury Public Library web sites and advance publicity for events hosted by the Poet Laureate.

To be considered for the position of Greater Sudbury Poet Laureate, applicants must:
  • be a published poet, recognized for his or her achievements;
  • have contributed to the cultural and literary community;
  • demonstrate leadership skills and public speaking ability, and
  • have a flexible schedule in order to carry out all duties required of this position.

Please note that the two previous terms of Poet Laureate have been set to have duties carried out in either English or French but this term will invite candidates of either language, with a suggestion to carry out duties bilingually if possible.
